Washington Wine: A Growing Industry
Washington’s wine industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the state. The number of wineries in the state has expanded from 19 in 1981 to more than 500 bonded wineries. The vineyard acreage in Washington is also rapidly expanding. The grape and wine industry also positively impacts many support industries, including tourism, retail, and hospitality. You could be a part a part of this dynamic industry today!

VineyardVineyard and Winery Technology
These degrees emphasize hands-on practical training. Vineyard Technology emphasizes the sustainable grape production principles in Washington with specialization in the integrated management of insects, weeds, diseases and crop production. Winery Technology provides students with an understanding of principles and the application of technology associated with the production of wine. Students will also apply methods to evaluate grape and wine quality.

You can obtain a degree in Vineyard Technology or Winery Technology. The program's goal is to provide graduates with technical training for careers such as:

  • Assistant Winemaker
  • Cellar Workers
  • Crew Supervisors
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Field Managers
  • Laboratory Technicians
  • Tasting Room Managers
  • Vineyard Technicians

BuildingStudents will develop a diversified knowledge of viticulture, enology, mathematics and applied sciences that will provide them the skill sets to be a valuable asset for any perspective career path or transfer to a 4-year university, such as Washington State University.

Teaching Winery
A state of the art teaching facility is available at the Grandview branch campus. The new building includes a teaching winery, laboratory, classroom, tasting room, barrel and case storage, and two incubator (start-up) winery spaces. Having two incubators is unique to any other wine program in the nation; combining the academic and business environment in one setting. This will promote the startup of a new winery and provide a beneficial learning environment for students.
