Winter Session / February 1-28, 2013 – 4 week online courseDescription of Course:  Introduction and preparation for ICD-10-CM coding and implementation.

  1. Week 1 – The What and Why of ICD-10 CM Coding
  2. Week 2 – Medical Record Documentation: Medical Terminology and Anatomy
  3. Week 3 – Formatting of ICD-10 CM
  4. Week 4 – Converting codes from ICD-9 to ICD-10 CM

 

Spring Session / April 2-May 11, 2013 – 6 week online course


    Objectives    :

    1. Learn how to assign ICD-10-CM codes to the highest level of specificity.
    2. Demonstrate comparisons and contrasts between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding.
    3. Using ICD-10 Coding manual demonstrate the ability to report diagnoses

Participants Will Need:
  1. A ICD-10 CM manual.
  2. Textbook - 2012 Step by Step Medical Coding by Carol Buck, CPC / ISBN:978-1-4557-0622-8
  3. Computer skills that would include ability to construct a Word document.
  4. Access to the internet to participate in the Angel online class,
  5. A headset or speaker with their computer (for Collaborate Sessions for hearing, do not need a microphone).
  6. A printer to print lecture material.   

 

Time Commitment for Students:

Approximately 6 hours per week. This would increase by one hour for each Collaborate Session (former name Elluminate).  

If a student is unable to “attend” the Collaborate Session it can be viewed as a recording at a later date during these 4-wk/6-wk workshops..
