The Department of Music takes pride in being one of the most active programs at Yakima Valley Community College, providing students with performing opportunities in vocal and instrumental music as well as formal academic training. The award-winning YVCC Jazz Ensemble, Salsa Band and Jazz Combos have become known throughout the Pacific Northwest region for quality. The YVCC Concert Choir and Chamber Singers have traveled throughout the region and posses a tradition of artistic quality and breadth of style including renaissance madrigals, vocal jazz and major choral works. The Department of Music offers a full two year program of study for music majors in theory, ear training and performance.
In addition, courses for the interested general student are an important part of the Department’s curriculum. Computer Music, Music Appreciation, History of Jazz, History of Rock and Roll, Music of World Cultures, Computer Music and 20th Century music are all courses designed for the student who has an interest in music as a non-major. Non-majors are also encouraged to participate in various performing ensembles such as the YVCC Salsa Band, The YVCC Concert Choir, Jazz Combos and the Chamber Singers.
You can also listen to the first volume of YVCC’s students original compositions in their new quarterly pod-cast YVCC Create Music Project.
